Health & Safety

Health and Safety is my number one priority. This is what pushed me into running for office. For years I’ve been on the civic side. I have assisted with advocacy, ballot measures, speaking, letters to the editor, emails to the City Council and the Mayor. I’m tired of having to fight City Council and the Mayor to defend the health of my family, the land I live on, the air I breath, and the water I drink.  Since 2013, my family has been fighting to keep industry out of our neighborhoods, schools, and parks. Certain members of council and the mayor are complicit in a calculated surrender to allow industry, without our permission, into where we live, where our children go to school, and where children play. This is no longer tolerable. This is no longer acceptable. This is no longer necessary. In the 21st century, with the technology we have available, it is no longer necessary to forfeit health and safety to accommodate industry. I moved to Broomfield for a lifestyle and a quality of life. A quality that did not include forcing industry into my back yard.

Transparency of Government

At the moment, much of the decision making process of Broomfield is made behind closed doors, over communication apps, and personal emails. We need a record retention policy. Right now, the digital data can be destroyed by the city attorney, who is a non-elected official. Members of the Broomfield Council routinely flout state requirements for transparency in their communications. We need to make sure all the data belongs to the public. All recordings, communications, amongst city officials and staff, are the property of the public. The records retention policy of Broomfield must reflect that philosophy. In Addition, there needs to be a citizen grievance measure – an Ombudsman – to bring a grievance to. Currently citizens can only voice to the Council, which is self-monitoring and self-accountable. An Ombudsman is a designate to handle ethics violations. Kind of like a civil law judge, who can investigate and rule judgements. This would be open to all Broomfield citizens, a form to provide credible concerns of ethics violations. Every Federal Agency has an Ombudsman, even the University of Colorado has an Ombudsman.

Attainable Housing

The number one pathway to personal wealth is home ownership. Having affordable housing is a necessary component to increasing ownership. Studies have found that homeownership leads to wealth creation, enhanced life satisfaction, a sense of security, higher rates of civic involvement. Homeownership also improves physical and psychological health, improved parenting, positive educational outcomes for children, greater self-esteem, and lower crime. Homeownership extends to how people feel about their neighborhood and their community.

Municipal Broadband

Viable high speed internet is the gateway to innovation, information, and economic prosperity. Create a viable, high speed, affordable, broadband service, for all residents & businesses, and have it regulated like a publicly owned utility. A city owned infrastructure, fiber optic technology (glass cables), with high speed terminals on either end. This will last 100 years into Broomfield’s future. Not only has it already been done, it’s already been done in Colorado, in Longmont and now in Fort Collins. And not only did it work, it’s an amazing success. And those same people will help us in ushering in our own broadband, bringing to the table their already tried and true learning curve. Longmont now has the fastest internet in the country.
